Gloucestershire Bowls Association News
President's Message 2012
Dear friends of the Gloucestershire Bowls Association.
I
feel very humble and privileged to now be the President of this great Association
of ours. I thank my home
Club of Moreton in Marsh for their nomination, and my good friends at Northwick
B.C. Club for seconding me.
We
have just completed our first year as a Unified Association and all appears
to have gone well. I look forward to playing
the County, Presidents and Executive matches, some of them being mixed. The
only fear I have in Bowling is being beaten by
a better player – the gender is irrelevant. I would therefore like to
wish the lady President, Pat Marsh, an enjoyable season
and look forward to seeing her at the matches.
I
have always been an avid supporter of the Middleton Cup, and this will continue
through my year. I look upon last year as a
positive step forward, just losing out on a quarter final place at the final
game. We have the players to progress further in the
competition and I will be there to encourage and support throughout.
I
thank all the Officers, and many members of the Association for their words
of support to me for the coming year, it is
appreciated. Also, taking on this type of position cannot be done without
the support of your family, and I thank my wife
Margaret for her unstinting support over many years, but especially during
my term in Office.
Please
enjoy your bowling next season and please remember, the Officers of the County
take their positions because they
want to, because they love the game of bowls, and because they want to give
something back. They also do it for nothing,
so their commitment to making the game enjoyable for all cannot be doubted.
Please enjoy the year.
Ian Deakins
President 2012
